An Iowa district attorney backed by billionaire George Soros charged a man with a hate crime Tuesday after he beheaded a Satanic statue.
The statue, which belonged to the Satanic Temple of Iowa, was prominently displayed in the Iowa State Capitol building in December, alongside Christmas displays. When 35-year-old Mississippi man Michael Cassidy saw the statue, he destroyed it by severing its head and was arrested.
“I saw this blasphemous statue and was outraged,” Cassidy explained in December. “My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted.”
“The world may tell Christians to submissively accept the legitimization of Satan, but none of the founders would have considered government sanction of Satanic altars inside Capitol buildings as protected by the First Amendment,” Cassidy added. “Anti-Christian values have steadily been mainstreamed more and more in recent decades, and Christians have largely acted like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot of water.”
Polk County District Attorney Kimberly Graham has now had Cassidy charged with a hate crime, which is classified as third-degree criminal mischief and a class D felony. Aside from claiming Cassidy acted “in violation of individual’s rights,” the DA’s office says Cassidy destroyed the statue because of his religion.
“Evidence shows the defendant made statements to law enforcement and the public indicating he destroyed the property because of the victim’s religion,” said Polk County Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lynn Hicks, according to the Des Moines Register.
In 2022 DA Kimberly Graham easily defeated her opponents in the Democratic primary after receiving upwards of $300,000 from George Soros’ Justice & Public Safety PAC. Graham, who describes herself as “she/her,” campaigned on “justice reform,” which includes eliminating cash bail for low-level offenses and putting an end to the “unnecessary prosecution” of juveniles.
Soros has invested around $40 million to install approximately 75 soft-on-crime DAs across the country who have pledged to implement “justice reform.” These district attorneys, who oversee half of America’s most populous cities, have been found to be responsible for 40% of crime in the US.
