Former National Security Advisor General Mike Flynn called today’s destruction of Baltimore’s Key Bridge a “Black Swan event,” explaining that “U.S. ports, harbors, and bays that transit commerce and military activities are supposed to maintain an incredible level of discipline, rigor and awareness for these very type events to not occur.”

The Corporate Finance Institute says “Black Swan” is “a phrase commonly used in the world of finance,” defined as “an extremely negative event or occurrence that is impossibly difficult to predict.”

Flynn said that despite all the safeguards that were supposed to have been in place, “yet here we are.”
